Introducing some of our team below:
I joined McNicholas in 2007 as Multi- Utility Business Manager, setting up and running a thriving consultancy and connections business.
A two-year secondment as Head of Design for McNicholas at the London 2012 project gave me an invaluable insight into the critical importance of design to the success of a major project. On return from my secondment I was made Head of Technical Services managing all design activities with external and internal clients across the McNicholas businesses.
In 2015 I was made Business Director of Source Design Services and look forward to leading the business by offering outstanding service to our growing client base.
Head of Consultancy
I started my career as an apprentice Site Engineer for a national civil engineering company based in Warwick, working in a variety of construction roles to develop my capabilities.
After joining McNicholas in 1998 working on a water maintenance contract for Seven Trent Water, I joined the Planning/ Design Department as a Design Manager. McNicholas then started a Multi- Utility Consultancy and Connections business for which I was Operations Manager. In 2015 I was promoted to Head of Consultancy of Source Design Services.
Head of Design
I started my career at AKT, a cutting edge civil and structural design house in central London working my way up to Associate level and gaining my Charter ship. After spending 10 years at AKT working on high profile national and international projects, I joined Network Rail’s Asset Management team, leading a team of engineers working closely with developers and outside parties to provide technical assurance. In 2013 I joined McNicholas as Engineering Manager and later was promoted to Senior Engineering Manager responsible for the day-to-day management of the in-house design team and sub-consultants.
In 2015 I was made Head of Design of Source Design Services responsible for managing all design activities.
After achieving my degree I started work at SC GekogluConstruct SRL doing reinforced concrete design. At the same time I did a Masters course at the university in Modernisation and Rehabilitation of Buildings.
With two years’ experience in reinforcement concrete detailing and a big thirst for adventure, I moved to London to experience something else. In 2014 I joined McNicholas as a CAD Technician, using software such as AutoCad, MicroStation and Qgis to create accurate civil and electrical engineering plans.
I am proud to be part of the team at Source Design Services and look forward to facing the challenges coming our way.
Principal Electrical Engineer
I have a degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering and an M.Sc. in Project Management.
I have worked as a Senior Engineer for the Atkins UK Station Design Team on London Underground’s Stations Refurbishment and Modernisation Programme under a PPP contract. Among my projects were St Paul’s Station, Chancery Lane Station and Eastcote Station.
Later, as Principal Engineer for WSP UK, I worked on Network Rail projects including London Bridge Station Modernisation, Ayrshire Platform Extension, Crossrail-Bond Street and Crystal Palace Station Refurbishment. I was also involved in feasibility studies for power infrastructure in Pakistan and the Congo.
Draughtsman, Microstation/Autocad Technician
After studying CAD using Autocad and Information Technology at Doncaster College for the Deaf, I started my design career at Technotrade Ltd, now known as GBG Structural Services.
I moved to Powell Tolner & Associates where I learned to create highly detailed industry standard plans, elevations and sectional drawings as well as producing proposed building designs and steel tower planning applications using Adobe Photoshop. After joining McNicholas I have helped to design rail infrastructure using both Autocad and Microstation. My first language is British Sign Language (BSL) and I now work with a BSL interpreter, which means my communication and interaction with the rest of the team is great.
As a qualified Civil Engineer I have worked in a series of design and construction supervision and management roles in civil engineering over the last 12 years.
I joined Source in a Senior Design Coordinator role, working in design management of primarily CP5 E&P Framework arrangement with Network Rail. My wealth of experience both in design and in the railway civils construction industry provides me with the confidence to deal with the ever changing needs within Source
In my current role as Design Manager I am focussed on delivering an increasing workload actively managing the Design Team both to budget and to programme.
I started my career as a Graduate Engineer after one-year work placement for ITM Soil where I contributed to a number of Crossrail projects. I joined Source Design Services as a Civil Design Engineer in 2014 after completing my BSc in Civil Engineering with Sustainability at Brunel University.
My long term career goal is to be a professionally qualified engineer with multidisciplinary experience in the rail engineering sector and Source Design Services are supporting me through the process toward chartership. I am now studying towards a master’s degree in Project and Infrastructure Management.
Our approach has seen an unwavering focus on fully understanding the needs of clients and delivering our services promises, regardless of the scale or complexity of the challenge in hand. Source Design Services is born out of the McNicholas Group and its 65 years of experience and knowledge in the Utilities and Rail sectors.

BIM STAGE 2 CAPABILITY
Source have the capability to integrate seamlessly with your project’s BIM requirements having worked in a virtual space on major infrastructure projects such as the Olympics and Bank Station Capacity Upgrade we will derive the BIM Execution Plan in relation to our works and collaborate with yourselves to deliver to your requirements.
AUTODESK CIVIL 3D
Source’s design capability is backed by its utilisation of the latest software, we work closely with our partners Bentley and Autodesk to ensure that our offer is enhanced with the latest technology in the marketplace. We use both Microstation and Autodesk software backed by our capacity to collate our data and models into a BIM environment. The transfer of this information for survey to design to as built is crucial to our clients and their continuing asset maintenance.
MAPPING THE UNDERGROUND
Utility strikes are a major concern in our industry with the potential to cause injury and huge project delay. Source are enthusiastic about the introduction of PAS128 as it sets out the accuracy to which the data are captured, the quality expected of those data and a means by which to assess and indicate the confidence that can be placed in data. Source are involved in Mapping the Underground a continuing forum for innovation in asset mapping.
Technologies such as Ground Probing Radar (GPR) and LiDAR (Light Detection And Ranging) enable us to effectively map above and below ground assets to incredible Source will take this Intelligent Surveying information and use it to derive the most effective solution for your project , as Source owns this process it enables a continuity from feasibility to detailed design
